End Notes Jazz - The funk edition March 07 2017

Our most popular event at the Cellar Door, a showcase of some of Sydney's finest jazz musicians, End Notes is in a world of it's own, celebrating different jazz styles and regions from around the world. Funk came of age in the mid-1960s, the illegitimate lovechild of a complicated relationship between Rhythm and Blues and Jazz that saw it raised instead by Soul. In contract to the other genres, Funk let go of over-elaborate intricate melodies and placed the electric bass and drum kit in the driving seat bringing busy basslines and a heavy backbeat to the front of the sound.
