Adelaide's premier cultural event, in collaboration with RCC, we present a neat little program as the wine partner for the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Hinged on the release of 3 of our wines, each event and activation explores different winemaking approaches and backstories. From a deep dive into the 'Edge of Chaos' with Mike Bennie and some of Adelaide's most forward thinking winemakers, to an equally as poignant discussion with controversial act Pussy Riot, describing their experiences living on The Edge of Chaos, to a sensory degustation titled 'Moon Safari' bringing together food, wine, music and lights with Africola. Wine De Jour #2 Adelaide Hills
Wine De Jour is back! This time, celebrating regional diversity and a ‘sense of place’ zero'ing in on the much talked about, Adelaide Hills. Created by Glen Cassidy (Cake Wines) and Sommelier/Wine Writer Samantha Payne, Wine De Jour is a wine festival exploring wine styles, regions and theories in a fun and engaging way. Held at the Cake Wines Cellar Door in Redfern, for this edition, we are focusing on the Adelaide Hills, the home of Cake Wines’ winemaking heritage, and the diversity of wines that are produced there to understand the concept of terroir (also known as a ‘sense of place’).
We couldn't discuss the culture of Adelaide without the inclusion of legendary pizza joint Sunny's to host a pop up in the venue. Renowned for their irreverent and legitimately life-changing discs, we are stoked they are making the trek. All this will help us explore what actually is a ‘sense of place’? Tasting wines from the top of the hill to the bottom of the valley, and every sub-region in between.

In the ten-or-so years this event has been running in the laneways of New York City, it’s only left NYC for one other town, but now, together with our Astral People family, we've found a secret outdoor spot in Sydney's inner city, and we're landing the party there on Sunday, February 25 for the first, Mister Sunday. We’ll be doing it just how it rolls in NYC: a four-point sound system, good vibes, a cell-phone-free dance floor and tunes from Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter from beginning to end. There’ll be good food from Eat Art Truck to keep you going and plenty of places off the dance floor for a nice chat and a hang. The party runs from 1pm to 8pm, and our rules will be in force to keep the vibe right:

Sarah's 2015 Vintage Report View More
Sarah's 2015 Vintage Report
2015, the vintage that ticked every box. We had surprise, drama, elation experimentation, lots of beer and the odd fire truck. But in the end we were left with spectacular results, and a real sense of pride for the awesome Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wine regions.
We knew it would come early having being tipped off in spring with flowering happening two weeks ahead of schedule and we were ready to go.
Healthy vines basked in week after week of glorious sunshine. Grape flavours developed and intensified balanced beautifully by natural acid that held strong thanks to nighttime temps that dipped low enough to contemplate flicking the electric blanket switch.
Ripening condition were ideal and it showed as we began to harvest the Adelaide Hills whites heady with aromatic perfume and sprightly acid back bones. Even with minimal winemaking intervention, the 2015 whites are showing some serious varietal punch, echoing exactly what I tasted in the vineyard.
Just as we all settled into a rhythmic pace of harvesting, yeasting and dreaming away the days envisioning extended Easter breaks (the stuff of winemaking myths!), it all came to an abrupt halt. Apparently exhausted from basking in bliss like conditions the vines seem to take offense to a little cloud cover and nights that were becoming a little more brisk.
As the weeks went by and we started to feel our holiday house deposits slipping away our frustration grew. But it was short lived, for when we saw the results of the spasmodic dormancy, we were elated. Both Shiraz and Cabernet from McLaren Vale, were dense with colour, ripe with supple savoury tannins and intense with varietal and regional flavors.
The 2015 vintage could be likened to the ultimate rollercoaster ride - fast paced and full of surprise twists and turns. But like any terrifying ride, there was an immense feeling of giddy satisfaction and triumph once we reach the end!
